Farm pad meeting coming to Snoqualmie Valley

Farmers who work the Snoqualmie River Valley’s rich bottomlands can reduce the threat of losses due to flooding by building farm pads – and King County can explain how it’s done at a March 24 meeting.

Landowners, contractors and engineers with recent experience in designing and constructing a farm pad will be on hand to share their views at the meeting, which runs from 7-9 p.m. at the Preston Community Center, 8625 310th Ave., Issaquah.

The Snoqualmie Valley is home to approximately 20 functional farm pads, many of which were pressed into use in early January when heavy rain and melting snow pushed the Snoqualmie River to record flows.

Despite the high water, farmers were able to save their livestock, farm equipment and other essential supplies by moving these items to the high ground of their farm pads.
