Help King County Parks preserve and restore world-class trails on National Trails Day, June 6th

Spend part of your Saturday, June 6th, celebrating National Trails Day by helping to improve King County Parks’ widely acclaimed regional and backcountry trail systems.

It’s no small task to establish and maintain King County’s 175 miles of regional trails and 125 miles of backcountry trails, and several volunteer trail work events are scheduled to help keep these trails systems in great shape for hikers, walkers, runners, equestrians and others.

King County Parks is hosting several volunteer trail work events, to coincide with National Trails Day on June 6, including:

  • Teens from King County Parks’ White Center Teen Program making trail improvements at Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park;
  • About 100 Microsoft employees enhancing the Audubon Bird Loop Trail at Marymoor Park;
  • Volunteers from the Washington Trails Association and employees from REI upgrading trails at Grand Ridge Park; and
  • Evergreen Mountain Biking Association volunteers and the public will take part in a work party at Duthie Hill Park. For more information, visit

“While we host volunteer work party events year ‘round, National Trails Day on June 6th is the perfect time to get together with family and friends to give back to the community by participating in one of these volunteer trails-improvement events,” said King County Parks Director Kevin Brown.

Sponsored by the American Hiking Society, National Trails Day inspires the public and trail enthusiasts nationwide to seek out their favorite trails to discover, learn about, and celebrate trails while participating in educational exhibits, trail dedications, gear demonstrations, instructional workshops and trail work projects.

Every year, King County Parks hosts more than 100 volunteer trail work events on projects that complement work done by King County Parks’ full-time backcountry trails crew. The full-time crew works on various trail construction projects across the county, thanks to funding from the voter-approved 2007 King County Parks levy.
