July 20, 2009 Employees repair valve, stop small overflow near Interurban Pump Station
Sewer utility employees responded quickly to a sewage overflow discovered about 10:30 a.m. near the Interurban Pump Station in Tukwila.
It’s estimated that about 200 gallons of wastewater spilled from a pipe into the Duwamish River near South 143rd Street. The overflow was apparently caused by a malfunction in a vacuum relief check valve, which has since been repaired.
County staff took water quality samples and notified health and regulatory agencies about the overflow.
The system is again operating normally, and crews will continue to monitor the site over the next several days.
