Clean up is completed in Woodinville following a sewer overflow that occurred around 9:00 a.m. just south of the intersection of NE 175th Street and Woodinville-Redmond Road.
King County sewer utility crews responded quickly to Woodinville Water District reports of a ruptured pipe spraying wastewater nearly 30 feet in the air.
To stop the leak, King County's Wastewater Treatment Division shut down the North Creek Pump Station in Bothell as well as a portion of the North Creek Interceptor, which carries wastewater from homes and businesses in northeast King and south Snohomish counties to South Treatment Plant in Renton.
It’s estimated that 20,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed for 30 minutes into a drainage swale between the road and Burlington Northern Railroad right-of-way, and possibly into a storm drain that flows to the Sammamish Slough.
County employees notified health and regulatory agencies about the overflow and took water quality samples.
To enable repairs, wastewater flows will be temporarily diverted to West Point Treatment Plant in Seattle. The cause of the line failure is under investigation.
