Feb. 12, 2009 King County responds to small sewage spill at Bellevue construction site
King County sewer utility crews quickly responded on Wednesday afternoon to a small sewage spill in Bellevue that occurred during a repair project. The spill was cleaned up immediately and there was no threat to public health or to the environment.
The spill lasted for approximately five minutes and resulted in an estimated 1,000 gallons of wastewater spilling onto the roadway.
King County crews and a private contractor cleaned up the spill, which occurred on the 13700 block of the Bellevue-Redmond Road in Bellevue. The road was closed for about five and a half hours during the clean-up, during which time traffic was diverted around the area.
King County notified the Washington State Department of Ecology and Public Health – Seattle & King County of the spill.
The ongoing construction is a wastewater pipe lining project of the Lake Hills Interceptor.
