Dec. 11, 2009 Bitter cold freezes pipe, causes small overflow in Carnation
A frozen pipe caused a small sewage overflow discovered about 2 p.m. at King County’s Carnation Treatment Plant.
City of Carnation employees discovered the problem and called Wastewater Treatment Division utility crews, who were able to stop the overflow within 15 minutes. It’s estimated about 350 gallons of sewage spilled onto a narrow portion of property on the south side of the treatment plant.
No spilled material reached the Snoqualmie River. The county is taking responsibility for cleanup, and has notified health and regulatory agencies about the incident.
