Seafair Pirates invade Movies@Marymoor Aug. 19 for ‘The Goonies’

Movies at MarymoorKing County Parks’ popular "Movies@Marymoor" outdoor cinema will be taken over by pirates at the Aug. 19 screening of “The Goonies,” when movie-goers will be treated to a special visit by the Seafair Pirates.

The final night of the 2009 summer outdoor cinema series features a screening of the family adventure classic, “The Goonies.”

Filmed in Astoria, Ore., the movie recounts the adventures of a group of friends trying to save their neighborhood by searching for pirate treasure rumored to be in the caves along the coast of their hometown.

The Seafair Pirates will be at Marymoor to provide moviegoers with pre-movie entertainment and games that will be fun for even the oldest pirate at heart. Movie-goers can also participate in the pirate fun by trying to reveal the secrets hidden in special treasure map, which is available on-line on the King County Parks blog at http://kingcountyparks.wordpress.com/.

Treasure map participants are encouraged to come early to the movie on Wednesday – or even spend a little time in Marymoor Park on Tuesday – to uncover the secret message. Participants should bring their completed maps with them to the movies, where the winning entries will be drawn prior to the start of the show.

Seating for the Movies@Marymoor opens at 7 p.m., and the movie will begin at dusk. Admission is free, and a $5/person or $15/family donation is suggested, which helps King County Parks underwrite the movie series.
