King County offers free ‘naturescaping’ session, native plant salvage, Nov. 12 in Maple Valley

Learn how to transform your yard into a beautiful, low maintenance oasis using the Pacific Northwest’s abundant and diverse native plants at King County’s “naturescaping” workshop, Nov. 12 in Maple Valley.

This free event is open to the public and features helpful information on how to create a wildlife-friendly landscape, shrink your lawn, and design your yard with a fantastic Pacific Northwest look. You will also learn how to successfully battle those pesky noxious weeds.

As an added bonus, workshop participants will be invited to take part in a native plant salvage Nov. 15 at a nearby parcel of land that’s slated for development. Participants are invited to dig up plants to take home and start making their own yards a little greener.  The salvage site has been provided by Brandt Properties LLC.

The naturescaping course is set for 7-9 p.m. on Nov. 12 at Rock Creek Elementary School, 25700 Maple Valley-Black Diamond Rd. SE (State Route 169) in Maple Valley. The native plant salvage opportunity will take place Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Directions to the salvage site will be provided at the workshop.

Space is limited for the naturescaping workshop. To register, contact Greg Rabourn at 206-296-1923, or greg.rabourn@kingcounty.gov.
