Whole Foods Market invests in communities with $20,000-plus donation to King County Parks

Earlier this year, shoppers at Whole Foods Market stores in Bellevue, Redmond, Westlake and Roosevelt Square helped strengthen the future of King County Parks by simply buying groceries.

Each Whole Foods Market store held special “5 Percent Day” events in 2008, when participating stores donated 5 percent of that day’s sales to the King County Parks Legacy Fund.

The donation is the latest contribution to the legacy fund, which was created earlier this year to ensure King County Parks continues as a nationally acclaimed provider of recreational facilities and amenities.

“We are so thankful to Whole Foods Market for their generous investment in the future of King County Parks,” said Parks Director Kevin Brown. “Parks and open space help make a community whole, and this contribution from Whole Foods Market will help us provide the amenities and services that King County residents have come to enjoy.”

“Whole Foods Market is thrilled to be able to contribute to our community through King County Parks, who we know will make the best use of this donation,” said Mary Moon Hernandez of the Whole Foods Market Roosevelt Square store.

The King County Parks Legacy Fund is being developed to provide a long-term safety net for parks and open space in King County. The fund accepts donations via the Northwest Parks Foundation, and gifts help support parks and open space in King County.

Gifts, bequests and donations from individuals, and businesses are a great way to leave a legacy for the benefit of future generations. Donations are fully tax-deductible, although potential donors should consult their financial adviser or tax preparer.

Gifts that preserve open space, provide new amenities or ensure ongoing support for a specific facility or program are tangible ways of making a difference now and in the future. All gifts are used only for parks purposes. Click here for more information about the Parks Legacy Fund.
