Utility crew stops small sewer overflow on Vashon Island

Sewer utility employees responded early this morning to a small wastewater overflow from the Beulah Park Cove treatment facility, which is part of the Vashon Treatment Plant system.

Sewer utility employees responded early this morning to a small wastewater overflow from the Beulah Park Cove treatment facility, which is part of the Vashon Treatment Plant system.

It’s estimated that about 5,700 gallons of stormwater and wastewater began overflowing from the facility about 4:30 this morning. By 7 a.m., workers had stopped the overflow and the facility again resumed normal operation.

County staff will notify health and regulatory agencies about the overflow and take water quality samples as required.
The overflow is believed to have been caused by heavy rain and a possible equipment malfunction. Workers will repair or replace equipment as needed and continue to monitor the facility.
