Nov. 7, 2008 King County closes Flood Warning Center, but will continue to monitor river levels
King County closed its Flood Warning Center at 7 p.m. Friday following 24 hours of monitoring minor and moderate flooding on the Tolt and Snoqualmie rivers. Staff will continue to monitor river flows as conditions warrant.
The Flood Warning Center opened on the evening of Nov. 7 after a series of storms brought several inches of rainfall to areas of King County. Fed by the heavy rain, the Tolt and Snoqualmie rivers quickly rose to Phase IV and Phase III flood alert levels, respectively, and flood patrol crews spent much of Friday assessing conditions along these and other King County rivers.
When flooding occurs, residents in affected areas can get updated information on flooding at www.kingcounty.gov/flood, or via RPIN, the area's regional Web site at http://www.rpin.org.
A recorded flood-information hotline is also updated each hour for citizens wanting information in flood areas. The number is 206-296-8200 or 1-800-945-9263. Citizens who need help interpreting flood information should call 206-296-4535 or 1-800-768-7932. Problems on county maintained roads can be reported by calling 206-296-8100, or 1-800-KC-ROADS.
