Bow Lake Transfer Station resumes service after brief closure from lightning strike

King County's Bow Lake Transfer Station is Tukwila is again accepting garbage this evening after being closed for roughly five hours following a lightning strike and small fire.

The transfer station, located at 18800 Orillia Rd. S., took a direct lightning hit at about 4:15 p.m. The strike caused a small electrical fire to break out underneath the scales.

Damage to the solid waste transfer station's electrical system was quickly repaired Wednesday evening, allowing the 24-hour facility to resume normal service at 9:30 p.m.
