Safely dispose household hazardous waste with King County's Wastemobile in Bothell/Kenmore, June 1-3
King County residents can help safeguard the environment by properly
disposing of leftover paint, dead car batteries and other household
hazardous waste at King County's Wastemobile, which will be at the
Kenmore Park and Ride lot June 1-3.
The Wastemobile
is part of King County's Local Hazardous Waste Management Program, and
will be located in the southwest parking lot of the Kenmore Park and
Ride, at Bothell Way Northeast and 73rd Avenue Northeast, from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m.
King County residents can drop off
hazardous household waste items, including pesticides, chlorine bleach,
paint products, automotive products (oil, antifreeze, auto batteries,
etc.), fluorescent bulbs/ballasts and other items free of charge.
Alexandra Thompson of King County's Solid Waste Division said the
Wastemobile's visit to Bothell/Kenmore in 2006 proved extremely
successful, when nearly 60,000 pounds of household hazardous materials
were gathered for proper disposal.
"Last
year's event in Bothell/Kenmore is a great indicator of the growing
popularity of the program," Thompson said. "We're hoping to experience
even greater success this year."
Created in
1989, the Wastemobile was the first program of its kind in the nation.
In its first 16 years in operation, the program collected 13,771 tons
of household hazardous waste from 306,800 customers.
The next two Wastemobile events are scheduled for June 8-10 and June 15-17 at the Fred Meyer store parking lot in Kent.
