Learn to create low maintenance, natural landscapes at King County’s ‘Naturescaping’ workshop

Landscapes created with native vegetation require less maintenance, conserve water and can thrive without potentially harmful pesticides – and they can be beautiful.

King County and Seattle Public Utilities are sponsoring two free "naturescaping" workshops, March 26 in Seattle and March 28 in Federal Way, where experts will offer participants solid advice on ridding the yard of weeds, shrinking the lawn and "going native" with plants and shrubs.

To sweeten the deal, everyone who attends a workshop can take part in a native plant salvage where they can dig up for their landscaping needs. The plant salvage will take place Saturday, March 31 at a site near Bonney Lake that is slated for development.

The March 26th workshop will be at the High Point Community Center, 6920 34 th Ave. SW in Seattle, while the March 28 th workshop will be at Todd Beamer High School, 35999 16 th Ave. S in Federal Way. Both workshops run from 6:30-9 p.m.; the native plant salvage is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Directions to the salvage site will be provided at the workshops.

Registration for the workshops is required, and can be done by calling 206-386-4162, or e-mailing creekstewardintern@seattle.gov. Space is limited.
