Nearly two dozen pets, livestock battling for 2007 King County Fair 'critter crown'

Traditional contest part of the great family fun in Enumclaw, July 18-22

There’s a barnyard full of animals in the running for the coveted title of “Royal Critter” to represent the 2007 King County Fair, set for July 18-22 in Enumclaw.

From the exotic, such as Emerald the ball python, to the more commonplace, such as Pixie Belle the toy fox terrier, this year’s Critter Crowning Contest is packet with 23 hopeful contestants – and only one will be selected to represent the oldest county fair west of the Mississippi.

“This year’s field of contestants is as diverse as we’ve ever had,” said Sharon Roberts, manager of the King County Fair. “It’s great to see so many King County residents excited to be a part of their fair.”

King County's Fair Board will choose 10 animal finalists to compete for the grand prize during the Fair's opening day ceremony at high noon on July 18. They will be judged on general appearance, stage presence and personality. The winning animal and owner will best exemplify the spirit of the King County Fair.

The appointed Royal Critter will be invited along with his or her owner to visit the King County Fair as a special guest of the King County Parks Division. The winner will replace outgoing Royal Critter, Jake the Horse.

This year’s King County Fair is packed with family fun, including an all-new Midway ride area, a new kiddie ride area, demolition derby and rollover competition, live entertainment and a great variety of traditional fair food.

Admission to the fair is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors 62 and older and for children ages 6 to 12. Kids under the age of 6 are free when accompanied by an adult. For more information about the 2007 King County Fair, visit http://www.metrokc.gov/parks/fair/default.asp.
