Community invited to Feb. 3 open house to learn about Mercer Island emergency sewer repair project
Community members seeking information about a sewer line repair
project now under way near Luther Burbank Park are invited to an open
house hosted by King County's Wastewater Treatment Division.
County staff will explain the need for the project and answer questions
about what people might expect during construction, which is expected
to last through March. Guided tours of the work site will also be
available.
The open house is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at the Community Center at Mercer View, 8236 S.E. 24 th Street, Mercer Island.
Crews began the emergency project to replace the North Mercer
Interceptor, a large pipe that carries wastewater to South Treatment
Plant in Renton, after the 40-year-old sewer line was damaged by high
flows and power surges during the Dec. 14 storm.
Additional information about the North Mercer Interceptor emergency project is available on the Web at: http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wtd/projects/mercer-island/interceptor.htm.
People can also call Monica Van der Vieren at 206-263-7301, or 711 TTY,
to learn more about the meeting or to request reasonable accommodations
for people with disabilities.
People enjoy clean
water and a healthy environment because of King County's wastewater
treatment program. The county's Wastewater Treatment Division treats an
average of 200 million gallons of wastewater per day and protects
public health and water quality by serving 17 cities, 17 local sewer
utilities and more than 1.4 million residents in King, Snohomish and
Pierce counties. Formerly called Metro, the regional clean-water agency
now operated by King County has been preventing water pollution for
more than 40 years.
