King County checking for damage as floodwaters recede

Flood Warning Center reports dropping flows on most rivers

Conditions are improving in most major rivers across King County Tuesday morning, as floodwaters slowly recede from the season's first flooding. King County flood patrol crews are in the field checking for potential trouble spots, particularly along lower Snoqualmie River, where the river is expected to crest at Carnation by mid-morning.

Elsewhere, floodwaters continue to drop after Monday's torrential rainfall and snowmelt brought moderate flooding to many areas. The King County Flood Warning Center, which has been open since early Monday to monitor flows, reports that the Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers remain at flood levels early Tuesday morning.

Residents in affected areas can get updated information on flooding on the King County Web site at www.kingcounty.gov/flood, or via RPIN, the area's regional Web site at www.RPIN.org. A recorded flood-information hotline is also updated each hour for citizens wanting information in flood areas. The number is 206-296-8200 or 1-800-945-9263.

Citizens who need help interpreting flood information should call 206-296-4535 or 1-800-768-7932. Problems on county maintained roads can be reported by calling 206-296-8100 or 1-800-KC-ROADS.
