Burke Gilman Trail detour extended in Kenmore as road safety, widening project progresses

The detour route of King County’s Burke Gilman Trail around a Kenmore construction project is being extended farther west so that work can proceed on the trail’s new underpass.

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4, the trail detour that currently begins at 73rd Avenue Northeast will start at 68th Avenue Northeast. The detour clears the way for crews to start constructing the trail’s underpass at 73rd Avenue Northeast.

The trail’s marked detour, which was set up by the City of Kenmore, follows Northeast 175th Street around the construction site, and will be in place through the end of the year.

The Burke Gilman Trail is popular with walkers, cyclists, rollerbladers and others as both a recreation corridor and for commuting. Trail users are encouraged to use caution through the construction zone, and bicyclists are urged to follow all traffic laws.
