King County updates 'Programs for Educators' directory

Lesson plans, ideas for field trips and award-winning instructional videos are some of the educational resources that are available to teachers through the annual King County Programs for Educators directory.

"We can provide the expertise and resources that help make school lessons come alive," said King County Executive Ron Sims. "This directory helps us spread the word on important countywide goals, such as reducing pollution and being prepared for emergencies."

Available at http://www.metrokc.gov/dnrp/Educators, the educators' directory is produced by the King County Solid Waste Division and offers a comprehensive guide to the many county-produced materials, funding sources and organizations that can help teachers shape curriculum.

Featured in the directory are resources to assist schools and school districts to conserve natural resources, save money and promote awareness of conservation strategies. Newly updated for the 2006-07 school year, the directory includes descriptions and contact information for programs in art, civil rights, emergency preparedness, the environment and transportation.

Through the Green Schools Program, King County provides practical assistance, funding and information on energy and water conservation, hazardous materials reduction and management, environmental purchasing and more.

Print copies of the directory are available by contacting the Solid Waste Division at 206-296-6542, or via e-mail at website.swd@kingcounty.gov.
