Wind-damaged Dockton Park pier getting repairs

Popular Maury Island pier will be closed May 9-10 while repairs are made

King County is working to complete repairs to the pier at Dockton Park on Maury Island so that boaters can take full advantage of this popular destination.

The pier, which was damaged during a two-day windstorm in early February, will be closed May 9-10, while a King County Roads Services Division crew re-attaches float sections and replaces hardware.

Joe Hicker, King County Facilities Management project manager, said boaters may face a few additional temporary access closures next week while repairs are completed.

"Our goal is to finish repairs to the pier floats at the base of the ramp on May 9-10, while other repairs that won't require a complete pier closure will continue over the following two weeks," Hicker said. Boaters can visit Dockton Park during construction closure, however they must use the boat ramp or beach craft for shore access.

Hicker estimated the total cost of the repair work at Dockton Pier at around $20,000.

The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks maintains Dockton Park at Quartermaster Harbor. The popular 20.5-acre park, moorage facility, picnic site, beach and natural area attracts people from all over the region. The park is at 9500 SW Dock St. More park information is available at http://www5.metrokc.gov/reports/parkinfo/getParkInfo.asp?PID=2455,Dockton%20Park.
