King County seeks volunteers for groundwater protection committees

The King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks is seeking volunteers to serve on the Redmond-Bear Creek and Issaquah Creek Valley Groundwater Protection Committees.

These committees are responsible for advising King County on issues related to groundwater, and directing scientific work to better protect groundwater supplies.

Prospective committee members should be familiar with the Redmond and Issaquah areas, and local water resources issues. These are volunteer positions that require attendance at quarterly afternoon and early evening meetings, plus some subcommittee work. Each committee currently has several vacancies.

Citizens who are interested in groundwater and who meets at least one of the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • A community member who owns or runs a farm (two positions, one each in Issaquah and Redmond) or;
  • A community member who represents a water purveyor (one position in Redmond) or;
  • A community member who is a residential well user (one position in Redmond).
