March 1, 2006 Dispose household hazardous waste responsibly with King County’s WastemobileThe Wastemobile travels to the Juanita/Kingsgate area, March 10-12  Many
everyday household products contain materials potentially hazardous
to the environment if not disposed of correctly. Keep household
hazardous material out of landfills by dropping them off at the
King County Wastemobile, which visits the Juanita/ Kingsgate area
March 10-12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fred Meyer store, 12221
120th Ave. NE.
The Wastemobile is operated by King County as part of the Local
Hazardous Waste Management Program. At no cost, King County residents
can drop off a number of different hazardous household waste items,
including pesticides, chlorine bleach, paint products, automotive
products (oil, antifreeze, auto batteries, etc.), fluorescent bulbs/ballasts
and other items.
Created in 1989, the Wastemobile was the first program of its
kind in the nation. In its first 16 years in operation, the program
collected 13,771 tons of household hazardous waste from 306,800
customers. During 26 collection events last year, the Wastemobile
served almost 20,000 King County residents, collecting an average
of 100 pounds of hazardous waste per customer.
The next Wastemobile event is scheduled for March 17-19 at the
Tilason Gravel Pit on Vashon Island.
