King County extends public comment period on draft flood hazard management plan to March 27

King County has extended the public comment period to provide citizens and other stakeholders additional time to review its draft 2006 Flood Hazard Management Plan. The deadline to submit comments is March 27.

The countywide plan sets forth a 10-year action plan for how King County proposes to manage its major rivers and floodplains in order to minimize flooding and channel migration hazards throughout the county.

The 2006 plan establishes policy, program and project recommendations to improve public health and safety, and to minimize risks to people, property, roads, public infrastructure, and natural resources. The 2006 plan does not propose any changes to current flood-hazard regulations.

Electronic copies of the draft 2006 plan can be viewed online and downloaded at http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wlr/flood/fhmp/index.htm. Printed copies of the plan can also be viewed at select King County libraries. Public comments can be submitted electronically through the draft plan's Web site or mailed to:
