Summer outdoor movie series returns to King County's Marymoor Park

2006 Archived News

From epics to cult classics, ridiculous comedies to heart-warming documentaries, King County's First Tech Movies @ Marymoor Park offer a little something for all cinematic tastes. Returning for its second season the outdoor film series premiers July 11 with a screening of the 2005 Academy Award-winning documentary "March of the Penguins."

The series, presented through a partnership between King County Parks, FirstTech Credit Union and Epic Events, is held once a week through the end of August at McNair Field in Marymoor Park. Open seating begins at 7 p.m. with the projector rolling at dusk. Admission is free but a donation of $5 for individuals and $15 for families is suggested. All proceeds go to support King County Parks.

"We're excited to bring our outdoor movie program back to one of our most beautiful regional parks," said King County Parks Director Kevin Brown. "Not only does this program provide an opportunity for residents to enjoy their ‘Big Backyard,' it also helps to generate revenue for the preservation our facilities."

Bundle up under the stars July 11 to watch the series' opening night Arctic documentary "March of the Penguins." Narrated by Morgan Freeman, this film beautifully captures the Emperor penguin's annual quest to find the perfect mate and start a family.

Continuing the series is a bounty of vintage and contemporary classics. Indiana Jones whips it up in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," while the Monty Python crew conducts a hilarious parody of the Crusades in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." Celebrate the 20th anniversary of John Hughes' "brat pack" classic, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" or enjoy the quirky cult comedies "Office Space" and "Napoleon Dynamite."

New to the series this year is First Tech Movie Bingo presented by First Tech Credit Union. Bingo cards containing movie words and phrases will be distributed at movie screenings with a chance to win some fun prizes.
