King County Fair takes it to the extreme with demolition derby, rollover competition
This year the 144th annual King County Fair, July 19-23, is "Alive
and Kickin’" it into high gear with a demolition derby
and rollover competition.
This high-energy, high-impact event will bring the fair to a crashing
conclusion on Sunday, July 23 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults
and $10 for children and seniors, and includes Sunday fair admission.
The King County Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena in Enumclaw will be transformed
into a pit of mayhem to accommodate the smash-‘em-up derby.
Presented by International Productions from the Evergreen Speedway
in Monroe, the event begins with an intense rollover competition,
followed by a demolition derby, where the last car running will
be declared the victor.
"We wanted to add something new and exciting to the fair
line-up this year, and a demolition derby is a great county fair
tradition," said Sharon Roberts, King County Fairgrounds manager.
The rollover competition is open to any sub-compact, compact or
mid-size car, including station wagons. Each driver gets two attempts
to record the highest number of rollovers, with the top driver winning
$300. Cash prizes will also be awarded to second- through seventh-place
drivers.
Both competitions are open to amateurs. Safety guidelines are strictly
enforced. All cars must undergo safety alterations prior to the
event including the removal of all glass, trim, chrome and all interior
except the front seat.
