Vashon-Maury Island Groundwater Protection Committee meets Jan. 25 at Fire Training Center

The Vashon-Maury Island Groundwater Protection Committee, which was established to advise King County on groundwater program activities related to protecting the island’s sole source aquifer, meets Jan. 25 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the large classroom at the Fire Training Center, 10020 SW Bank Rd., Vashon.

The committee, which is made up of Vashon residents, is expected to hear presentations on low-impact development, fertilizers and pesticides, and updates on grant proposal efforts and King County’s water resources evaluation project.

The project seeks to monitor groundwater quantity and quality from King County-owned wells and from volunteer wells to ultimately develop a computerized model.

Groundwater scientists will be on hand at the meeting to discuss the purpose, installation, and preliminary results of several recently drilled monitoring wells.
