High winds damage pier at Dockton Park

King County will close access to pier to assess damage, make repairs

King County has closed public access to the pier at Dockton Park on Maury Island after the pier sustained damage during strong winds earlier this month.

An initial assessment of the pier revealed that several moorage cleats were broken along the top deck. A number of the pier's planks were loosened during the strong winds, and some of the concrete pontoons' floating devices appear to have sustained damage as well, leading to an uneven and dangerous walking surface.

The pier was damaged during the heavy winds that swept through the region Feb. 4-5. Early estimates are that the pier will be closed for about two weeks while repairs are made.

Dockton Park is at 9500 SW Dock St. More information about the park is available at http://www5.metrokc.gov/reports/parkinfo/getParkInfo.asp?PID=2455,Dockton%20Park.
