King County hosts draft flood hazard management plan meetings Feb. 13 in North Bend, Feb. 16 in Auburn

King County, a nationally recognized leader in floodplain management, is hosting public meetings this month in North Bend and Auburn to provide floodplain residents and interested citizens with details associated with the draft 2006 Flood Hazard Management Plan.

This countywide plan sets forth a 10-year action plan for how King County proposes to manage its rivers and floodplains in order to minimize flooding and channel migration hazards throughout the county.

The 2006 plan establishes policy, program and project recommendations to improve public health and safety, and to minimize risks to people, property, roads, public infrastructure, and natural resources. The 2006 plan does not propose any changes to current flood hazard regulations.

Residents in north King County can learn more about the 2006 plan at a meeting Feb. 13 at North Bend Elementary, 400 East 3rd St., in North Bend. South King County residents can attend a meeting Feb. 16 at the Auburn Senior Center, 808 9th St. SE, in Auburn. Both meetings are scheduled for 6-8 p.m.

County staff will be at the meetings to provide information and answer questions about the 2006 flood hazard management plan. More information is available by calling 206-296-8001; toll-free at 1-800-325-6165, ext. 68001or online at http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wlr/flood/fhmp/index.htm.
