Transfer station in Kirkland opens using back-up power

Powered by a back-up generator, the Houghton Transfer Station in Kirkland is open today for waste disposal until dark. The Cedar Falls Drop Box in North Bend will remain closed due to lingering impacts from a severe windstorm that swept through the region early Friday morning.

All other King County Solid Waste facilities are now operating with normal hours. For more information about King County Solid Waste Division facilities, visit: http://www.metrokc.gov/dnrp/swd/. Meanwhile, for residents wanting to dispose of wood debris such as stumps, tree limbs and brush, the material can be taken to recycling processors.

Visit the Solid Waste Division Web site, www.metrokc.gov/dnrp/swd, and select the "What Do I Do With...?" option. Select either "Business" or "Resident," or "All landscaping/landclearing" and click the "Search" button to generate a list of recycling processors. In many cases these recycling options are significantly less expensive than disposal.
