Whole Foods joins Fall Northwest Natural Yard Days, offers discounts Sept. 1 - 30

Whole Foods will join 24 other retailers helping residents practice environmentally friendly yard care during Fall Northwest Natural Yard Days, Sept. 1-30.

The promotion offers discount prices on environmentally-friendly gardening products at more than 80 lawn and garden center locations, home improvement centers and nurseries in King County and seven additional Puget Sound-area counties.

Northwest Natural Yard Days, founded through a partnership between King County, the City of Seattle and 24 other Puget Sound-area agencies, allows residents from Bellingham to Olympia to practice environmentally-conscious gardening without breaking the bank. Discounts of 20 percent or more on organic fertilizer, bagged compost and bark mulch will be offered just in time for fall yard-care projects.

Adding Whole Foods to the list of retailers participating in Northwest Natural Yard Days this year is another good move, said Gerty Coville, program analyst for the King County Solid Waste Division.

“We are excited to have such a highly regarded partner as Whole Foods join our team of vendors this year,” she said. “With Whole Foods’ support, we can really get the word out on the importance of natural yard care, and make it more affordable for everyone.”

Northwest Natural Yard Days encourages people to practice five steps to natural yard care: Build healthy soil, plant right for your site, practice smart watering, think twice before using pesticides and practice natural lawn care.

Healthy soil leads to healthy lawns and gardens, and fall is an excellent time to feed and protect soil by fertilizing, adding compost and applying bark mulch.
