Aug. 10, 2006 New access coming to Three Forks 'Old School Site'
Access to a 527-acre natural area that features striking views
of Mount Si and five miles of riverfront is about to be improved
under a plan from the King County Department of Natural Resources
and Parks.
Located on what is called the 'Old School Site,' the
project at the Three Forks Natural Area includes building a new
trail and parking area, picnic area, interpretive signage and installing
a portable restroom. Site users currently park alongside a busy
road on a narrow shoulder.
"This is a regional asset that provides irreplaceable natural
habitat and important recreational opportunities for individuals
and families of King County," said King County Executive Ron
Sims. "The new trail will provide much-needed access to a
popular stretch of the North Fork Snoqualmie, making visits more
enjoyable and safer."
The county will also make a concerted effort to remove invasive,
non-native plant species, including Himalayan blackberries, and
replanting the area with native vegetation. Construction is planned
to begin in September and should be finished by November.
King County acquired the Three Forks Natural Area using funds from
the Open Space Bonds of 1989 and with assistance from the Inter
Agency Committee for Outdoor Recreation.

manager Jason Rich at 206-263-7314.
