Punkin PictureAs King County's 7th annual Harvest Celebration Farm Tour gets under way on Saturday, October 1, King County residents are in for a treat at The South 47 Farm in Redmond.

Among the 26 farms participating in the Farm Tour, The South 47 Farm will feature a visit from King County Executive Ron Sims and author Michael Ableman, along with demonstrations on how to prepare delicious meals by Chef Brian Scheehser of the Sorrento Hotel from 11:45 a.m. through 1:30 p.m.

The Farm Tour encourages King County residents to draw the link between locally grown food and nutrition. The annual event helps support local farms and our local food system by introducing King County citizens to local farmers and their produce on their farms.

As the executive chef at the Sorrento Hotel in downtown Seattle and its award-winning restaurant, the Hunt Club, Chef Brian Scheehser's menus feature Pacific Northwest style cuisine with a Mediterranean influence. He is renowned for using organic, seasonal, and local ingredients, many of which come from The South 47 Farm. Chef Scheehser's dishes have received a variety of awards and his recipes have appeared in numerous publications. He will be cooking with fresh produce from The South 47 Farm at 12:15 p.m. at King County's Harvest Celebration.

Michael Ableman is the founder of the Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens, an education center and working organic farm in southern California. The author of From the Good Earth and On Good Land, Michael's photography and writings have been featured in many national publications. At noon, Michael will speak briefly about his newest book, Fields of Plenty, which chronicles his journey to find the most innovative and passionate farmers all across America.
