King County's “Waste Free Holidays” seeks partners

2005 Archived News

The King County Solid Waste Division invites businesses and organizations that offer "experience gifts" to join its 2005 Waste Free Holidays program.

Now in its 10th year, this popular waste prevention program encourages residents to "give an experience instead of stuff." Other than providing the discounted offer to customers, there are no additional costs for businesses to participate. Waste Free Holidays' participating partners are required to offer discounts of at least 15 percent on gift certificates or other services during the holiday season, from Nov. 17- Dec. 31.

King County and the City of Seattle promote the program with newspaper and radio ads, and through other publicity and promotional events.

In 2004, more than 100 King County businesses and organizations participated, offering discounts from 15 to 50 percent on tickets, memberships, or gift certificates for concerts, plays, sporting events, recreation, museums, restaurants, massages and other services.

If your business is interested in becoming a partner this year, please visit the Waste Free Holidays Web site at www.wastefreeholidays.com to apply. Click on the King County/Seattle section, and then click on "Apply to Join WFH." The deadline for applications is Tuesday, Sept. 27. King County reserves the right to limit participation.
