2005 Archived News

King County invites the Georgetown and South Park communities to the Healthy Homes and Gardens Open House, a free demonstration of natural ways to keep harmful chemicals out of the Duwamish Waterway while enhancing yards.

Saturday, Nov. 5, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
South Park Community Center
8319 Eighth Ave. S., Seattle

Child care and children’s activities will be provided, so families are encouraged to attend. Presentations will be in both English and Spanish.

Residents can take part in a carwash kit demonstration, tree pruning exercise, landscape planting, and information fair. Free carwash coupons and gardening items such as pots, mulch and seeds will be available while supplies last.

Information will also be available on reducing yardwork while creating a better place for birds and other wildlife; growing organic vegetable gardens; selecting native plants; using compost; and learning how the Duwamish Cleanup Coalition and other local organizations can help families be good neighbors of the Duwamish.

Co-sponsors are the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, Environmental Coalition of South Seattle, Seattle Parks and Recreation, state Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
