Kick off the holiday shopping season with King County's Waste Free Holidays program

2005 Archived News

Waste Free HolidaysAs the holiday shopping season kicks into high gear, King County is reminding consumers that giving the gift of an experience reduces waste, and saves money and time.

Through King County's "Waste Free Holidays Program," shoppers have the opportunity to purchase holiday gifts at discounted prices of 15 to 50 percent. These "experience gifts" include gift certificates and memberships, tickets for concerts, plays, and sporting events, museum visits, restaurant meals, spa treatments and much more.

"Participants in this program are not only reducing waste and conserving resources, but they are also saving money through the great discounts that are offered,” said Tom Watson, King County's Waste Free Holidays Program project manager.
“Purchasing from the Waste Free Holidays Program gives people more time to spend with their family and friends, and less time looking for a parking place at the mall or standing in the checkout line,” Watson said.

Here's how the program works: Each participating business offers an experience gift at a discount of 15 percent or more. Purchases at the discounted price can be made until Dec. 31, 2005, by directly contacting participating businesses.

Details on all of the offers and the participating partners are available at www.wastefreeholidays.com. Waste Free Holidays is a partnership between King County, City of Seattle, City of Tacoma, Pierce County, Ticketmaster and the organizations that provide discounts on experiences.
