East Lake Sammamish Trail Groundbreaking

2005 Archived News

Thirty five years after the East Lake Sammamish Trail was identified as a priority regional trail, ground will be broken for construction of the final segment of this link between Marymoor Park near Redmond and the City of Issaquah.

King County Executive Ron Sims and Sammamish Mayor Don Gerend will be joined by many others who made this possible for the groundbreaking of the Sammamish portion of the East Lake Sammamish Trail Saturday, July 30.

  • Sims, Gerend and others will convene at 9:30 a.m. at the trail where it intersects 187th Ave. NE for media photos.
  • The ceremony will commence at 10:15 a.m. in Marymoor Park with remarks at ball field #8 near the east entrance of the park.
  • Following remarks, approximately 10:45 a.m., attendees will walk or bike 1.5 miles to where the trail intersects 187th Ave. NE for the groundbreaking, approximately 11:30 a.m.

The East Lake Sammamish Trail extends 12 miles south from the Sammamish River Trail Issaquah, WA. This will establish a 45 mile long continuous non-motorized route from Ballard in the City Seattle to Issaquah as well as a key connection in the county's growing regional trail system.
