2005 Archived News

Traditional farm animals may make way for a Cougar, a Sasquatch and even a Geoduck or two for at least a day at the 2005 King County Fair in Enumclaw next week. And, as part of the fair’s inaugural Qwest Mascot Day on July 22, don’t be surprised if you see a Hornet, Logger or a Pirate milling about the King County Fairgrounds.

Both young and young at heart are encouraged to dress up as their favorite team mascot to compete to win some great prizes. Free entry will be given to those fair goers who come dressed in mascot attire from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 22. Blitz, the Seahawks mascot, will also be on hand to help judge and award prizes at the Qwest Mascot Costume Contest at 1 p.m.

Stop by the Root Beer Garden and get a $1 float on your way to the south stage where you can get autographs and photos with the Seattle Sea Gals and mascot Blitz from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Free admission for mascot look-a-likes is just one of many promotions and discounts available at the 143rd King County Fair in Enumclaw, which runs July 20-24 with the theme: Good Clean Fun.

Other fair highlights include Senior Day on Wednesday, July 20 where a Safeway Free Breakfast and Free Admission are available until noon with coupon from Enumclaw Safeway. Also featured is a Kids Day on Thursday, July 21, during which unlimited carnival rides are available for $20 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. – 10 p.m

Don’t forget to stop by the Children’s Corner where you will find free crafts, games, and activities for kids of all ages. Roll up your sleeves and prepare to experience the messiest GOOD, CLEAN FUN around.

Included in the admission price is access to all the shows, with entertainment scheduled on three different stages. General admission prices are $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12, and $5 for seniors 62 and over.

Hours for the fair are: July 20 & 21 (Wed & Thurs) -- 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; July 22 & 23 (Fri & Sat) -- 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; July 24 (Sun) -- 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
