Summertime noxious weed workshops offered throughout King County

Do you need help managing noxious weeds on your property? County weed experts will show you how to take care of problem summer weeds like purple and garden loosestrife, tansy ragwort, invasive knotweed, Scotch broom and more. Find out if you have any of the worst noxious weeds on your property, what to do about it if you do and where to go for help. Learn how to manage weeds now so you will have less work in the years to come.

King County noxious weed experts will be available at FREE summer workshops to teach participants how to identify and manage unwelcome invasive weeds on their properties. The following workshops are available:

Tuesday, July 19, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Vashon Weed Workshop, at March Twisdale's place, 11933 SW Cove Rd., Vashon.

Come to a free workshop on Vashon's pasture and invasive weeds hosted by Vashon resident March Twisdale. County noxious weed experts Sasha Shaw and Maria Winkler will teach about weeds found on the island and how to manage them. Bring your own gloves and try out different tools and techniques - if you've never tried a weed wrench, this is your chance! Thursday, July 28, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Summer Noxious Weed Workshop: Tips and Tools for Property Owners, Bellevue Regional Library, 1111 110th Avenue NE, Bellevue 98004

Learn about managing your least favorite plants and find out about new invaders that could be the next worst weeds if we don’t stop them now. Everyone is welcome but please register ahead with Sasha Shaw at 206-263-6468 or sasha.shaw@kingcounty.gov.

The King County Noxious Weed Program works with public agencies and private landowners to reduce the impacts of noxious weeds on the environment, recreation, public health and economic resources of the county. In 2004, program staff worked with more than 3,500 property owners and land managers and achieved control of noxious weeds on more than 5,100 properties.
