Feb. 28, 2005 King County seeks volunteers for tree-planting events in the Snoqualmie Valley
2005 Archived News
Looking for a fun, rewarding activity that helps the environment
and restores salmon habitat? King County is looking for volunteers
to help plant native trees and shrubs along side the Snoqualmie
River on Saturday, March 12. The plantings will help reforest an
area adjacent to prime spawning grounds for chum, pink and Chinook
salmon.
Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chinook Bend Natural Area in the Snoqualmie Valley.
For this event:
- Pack a lunch, water and a mug. Light refreshments will be provided.
- Wear old "work clothes" and rubber boots or heavy
shoes to get down and dirty.
- Dress for the weather - we will plant rain or shine! Tools
and gloves will be provided.
- Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
All volunteers must sign a waiver form, those under 18 must have
a form signed by a parent or guardian. To get a form in advance,
contact Tina Miller or go to http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wlr/pi/waiver.htm.
Directions to the site: From SR 520 eastbound: Take the Fall City/SR
202 (Redmond-Fall city Road) to NE Ames Lake Rd and turn left. Follow
for 5.6 miles as the road changes names (Ames Lake Road/Ames Lake-Carnation
Rd/NE Carnation Farm Rd). You will see the Nestle' Regional Training
Center on your right. Continue 1.5 miles before turning left at
the volunteer event signs. If you go over the bridge, you've gone
too far. From SR 203: Take NE Carnation Farm Rd (just north of the
town of Carnation), go 0.9 miles until you reach the volunteer event
signs, just after crossing the bridge.
Volunteers are also needed on April 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to
join in habitat restoration projects at Tolt MacDonald Park located
in Carnation.
To reserve a spot or learn more about these and other volunteer
opportunities please call Tina Miller at 206-296-2990 or e-mail
tina.miller@kingcounty.gov.
