2005 Archived News

Looking for an inexpensive, idea for Wednesday evening? Look no further than King County's Marymoor Park and enjoy this season's final movie in the park: Napoleon Dynamite on Wednesday, Aug. 31.

And for diehard fans, Caramia's Sweeties Treaties will be serving piping hot tater tots to accompany this quirky award-winning comedy.

Bring a blanket, lawn chair and family or friends and be a part of the fun. Marymoor Park boasts one of the largest off-leash dog areas in Washington, and leashed dogs are welcome to join moviegoers. Enjoy a final summer evening under the stars, and watch one of the funniest movies of the year while snacking on tater tots.

"This year's First Tech Movies @ Marymoor series was very successful. So far, more than 1,300 people have attended," said King County Parks Director Kevin Brown. "We're glad to be offering summer movies again, and this year's lineup attracted great crowds."

Open seating begins at 7 p.m., and the movie begins at dusk (approximately 8:30pm). First Tech will host a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to Fry's Electronics at the movie. The movie is free, but a $5 donation for individuals and $15 donation for families is suggested to support King County Parks and its nonprofit partners.

A portion of the donations received from Wednesday's film with go toward supporting Friends of Marymoor Park, the umbrella nonprofit group dedicated to enhancing the park.

Generating revenue by increasing park amenities is one of the creative solutions King County is pursuing to keep parks open and well maintained. Through the county's entrepreneurial program, King County has created successful new ventures like the First Tech Movies @ Marymoor program and has focused on partnerships as a way to enhance recreation and generate new revenue without incurring new maintenance and operation costs.
