Archived News
Volunteers are needed Saturday, February 7, in Newcastle to help King County salvage native plants from a development site.
Join
other volunteers from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in a fun-filled morning of
digging up native trees and shrubs in King County. This site is
provided by the Renton School District.
Volunteers
are also needed in the afternoon, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., following
the salvage project, to help re-pot the plants at King County’s Native
Plant Holding Facility on the Sammamish Plateau.
Salvaged
native plants are used at King County restoration sites and help reduce
erosion, shade streams and provide fish and wildlife habitat. The
"rescued" plants are used to restore stream banks, wetlands and buffers
near a variety of capital improvement and roads projects. Developers,
government, and individual citizens collaborate to make the program
work. Volunteers are vital to King County’s Native Plant Salvage
Program and the community’s help is greatly appreciated.
