Conservation Supplementation Plan for Lake Sammamish Late-run (Winter-run) Kokanee

Kokanee Conservation Supplementation PlanThe Lake Sammamish Kokanee Work Group is pleased to release the new Conservation Supplementation Plan for Lake Sammamish Late-run Kokanee. This plan provides operational guidance for the Lake Sammamish late-run kokanee supplementation program started with the 2010-2011 brood year and has been updated for 2011-2012 (current run). The plan will be reviewed and revised on an annual basis. This plan supersedes all prior documents pertaining to the use of artificial propagation methods to prevent the extinction and contribute to the recovery of native kokanee in the Lake Washington/Sammamish watershed.

This plan is the product of a collaborative effort by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The authors encourage the Kokanee Work Group and everyone with an interest or a role in kokanee recovery to consider the supplementation program a complement to, not a substitute for, the protection and restoration of the stream and lake habitat that will provide the best assurance that our kokanee population will recover and sustain itself for generations to come.

The Kokanee Work Group extends thanks to the contributing authors, including:

  • From the US Fish and Wildlife Service: Jeff Chan, Joy Evered, Denise Hawkins, Sharon Lutz, Dan Magneson, Roger Tabor, Brad Thompson, and Dave Zajac.
  • From the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife: Aaron Bosworth, Darin Combs, Doug Hatfield, John Kerwin, Steve Schroder, Justin Spinelli, and Ken Warheit.
  • From the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks: Hans Berge, Daniel Lantz, and David St. John.
