Yellow Floating Heart
Nymphoides peltata

yellow floating heart plantsThis aquatic Class B noxious weed was introduced to Washington State from Europe.  Although the largest infestation is in Long Lake/Spokane Lake in Stevens and Spokane Counties, it does occasionally occur elsewhere in the state, including King County.  This plant has been used as an ornamental water plant, however it is highly invasive and very difficult to control.  It is illegal to buy and sell this plant in Washington (see the Washington State Prohibited Plants List).  All sightings of this plant should be reported as soon as possible to allow for control measures to be taken before it is too widely established.  Control of yellow floating heart is required in King County, Washington.
