This Class A weed is found in limited distribution in Stevens County, where it is invasive and difficult to control in open range lands or pastures. Eradication of clary sage is required in King County.

In Western WA, clary sage is sometimes sold as a garden ornamental. It is on the quarantine list (144 KB Acrobat file), and is illegal to buy, sell or offer this plant for sale in WA. This sage is distinguished by the large, colorful bracts found beneath each flower.
