South King County Leaders Meet to Discuss Washington's 2016 Economic Outlook

On January 16, 2016 South King County leaders met with Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Executive Director Dr. Steve Lerch to discuss Washington State's 2016 economic outlook.

Good Eggs Breakfast Meeting February 3, 2016

On February 3, 2016 Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson reviewed the role of the Office of Attorney General, and discussed funding K-12 education, public records requests, consumer safety, and current legislative issues affecting South King County at the monthly breakfast meeting.

Good Eggs Breakfast Meeting March 3, 2016

On March 2, 2016 Patty Hayes, Public Health Director, provided an update on the Zika outbreak and regional efforts in keeping local communities healthy at the monthly breakfast meeting.

Council Approves Transfer of Surplus Vans

On March 21, 2016 the Council approved the transfer of surplus vans to District 7 organizations including the Federal Way Multi-Service Center, the Federal Way Boys and Girls Club, Valley Cities Counseling, and the Auburn Food Bank.

Federal Way High School Boys Basketball Recognized

On March 21, 2016 The Federal Way High School Boys Basketball coaches and team were presented with a recognition for their successful, undefeated season and winning the 2016 WIAA 4A Boys State Championship for a second year in a row.

First Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Medal of Distinguished Service Awards

On March 21, 2016 first annual Martin Luther King Jr. Medal of Distinguished Service Award for District 7 was given to Debbie Christian for her work with the Auburn Food Bank and her positive impact on the community through her efforts addressing the reality that hunger touches us all.

Town Hall Meeting April 3, 2016

On April 12, 2016 I attended the Town Hall meeting on Property Taxes with Assessor John Arthur Wilson. Among the issues discussed were property tax affordability for seniors and those families recovering from the challenging economy.


Federal Way Lions Club Charity Basketball Game

On April 14, 2016 I attended the Federal Way Lions Club classic charity basketball game between the firefighters and police department.


Attending the Korean Language School Dinner

On April 24, 2016 I attended the Korean Language School dinner and learned that over forty percent of their students are non-Koreans learning Korean!


Federal Way/Auburn Boys and Girls Club Breakfast

On April 26, 2016 Auburn and Federal Way High School Baseball Teams joined Seattle Mariners General Manager Jerry Dipoto to raise $50,000 at the annual Federal Way/Auburn Boys and Girls Club Breakfast.

Council Honors Boys in the Boat Author

On May 2, 2016 Boys in the Boat author Daniel James Brown, who chronicled the 1936 US Olympic rowing team, was honored at a Council meeting for his prose which highlighted the role of the University of Washington Crew Team.


King County Flood District and City of Pacific Open House

On May 4, 2016 King County Flood District and City of Pacific officials held an open house where staff did a great job answering questions and clarifying the direction of work on the White River for nearby residents.

King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg at the monthly breakfast meeting. He discussed his office's new approach to the evolving environment of crime in King County.

D-Day Anniversary Recognition

On June 6, 2016 Anniversary of D-Day, I recognized 101 year-old Arthur Jacobson for his extraordinary service at Pearl Harbor and throughout WWII, as well for his public service after the war.


Town Hall on Addiction and Recovery Meeting

On June 9, 2016 I attended Town Hall on Addiction and Recovery with members of the Heroin and Opiates Task Force including King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg, King County Chief Deputy Jim Pugel, Harborview Chief Nursing Officer Darcy Jaffe and Co-Chair of the Task Force, Brad Finegood and student leaders.


Soroptimists of Federal Way South King County's 27th Annual Flag Day Celebration

On June 11, 2016 I attended the Soroptimists of Federal Way South King County's 27th Annual Flag Day Celebration with keynote speaker KVI Radio personality John Carlson, and honoree WWII Veteran, Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient, Art Schladerman.

Council Recognizes Ron Crockett

On June 20, 2016 the Council recognized businessman Ron Crockett for saving thoroughbred racing in western Washington and for his generous philanthropy over the years.

After the meeting, the City of Auburn renamed a street at Emerald Downs "Ron Crockett Drive."


White River County Levee Setback Project Kick Off

On June 29, 2016 I attended the kick off for new levee work in the Countyline Levy Setback Project along the White River to reduce the flooding affecting hundreds of homes and thousands of people.


Council Passes Legislation to see Auburn Health Clinic Property

On July 5, 2016 the King County Council unanimously passed legislation to see the Auburn Health Clinic property to the City of Auburn for the creation of an arts center in downtown Auburn.

Auburn Library Ballot Drop Box

On July 28, 2016 I visited the new ballot drop box at the Auburn Library.


Celebrating South Korean Liberation Day

On August 15, 2016 I celebrated South Korean Liberation Day, honoring the legacy of the Korean soldiers and people, and the sacrifice of our own Korean War veterans.


Meeting with Dr. Jeff Sperring, CEO of Seattle Children's Hospital

On August 17, 2016 CEO of Seattle Children's Hospital Dr. Jeff Sperring met with South County leaders and outlined his goal of providing more accessible healthcare opportunities for families in South King County.

Hearing from Statewide Office Candidates

On September 14, 2016 South King County civic leaders heard from candidates for statewide office, including the two candidates vying to become Washington State Treasurer.

On September 21, 2016 Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff discussed Federal Way Link Extension ST3 project with local managers and store owners most affected around the Federal Way Commons and current transit center.

Town Hall October 5, 2016

On October 5, 2016 Town Hall on Emergency Preparedness provided students from Federal Way High School, Federal Way Public Academy, Thomas Jefferson High School and the Green River Composite of the Civil Air Patrol the opportunity to provide their thoughts with panelists including US Army Corps of Engineers-Seattle District Commander Colonel John Buck and King County Emergency Management Deputy Director Jody Miller.


Meeting to Discuss ST3 and Traffic Congestion Solution

On October 12, 2016 I attended a meeting regarding long range plans for Sound Transit (ST3) ballot measures and interim solutions for traffic congestion.

FUSION Grant Presentation

On October 26, 2016 FUSION, which helps homeless families in South King County, received a grant from King County to help provide our youth with a stable home environment.
