Roy Dodman, senior buyer in the Procurement Section of the Finance Division, Department of Executive Services.
For several years, and on a regular basis, Roy has provided Catherine Clemens, Executive Director to the Board , the information she needs to manage the consultant disclosure program required under the ethics code. He has always responded both promptly and cheerfully. This information leads to consultant disclosure documents filed with the ethics office, which help to ensure the public's confidence that all of the county's transactions are free from conflict of interest. In addition, Roy has given his time to present education seminars along with the ethics Executive Director. These seminars are designed to inform contract managers so they may identify and solve ethical dilemmas and ensure highest standards in contracting.
Pat Presson, finance administrator in the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention.
Both in her current position, as well as her former position in the Business and Finance Operations Division of Department of Executive Services, Pat has been a leader in recognizing ethics issues and taking positive action to keep ethical standards high. She is a valued colleague and friend to the Board of Ethics because of her ability to communicate clearly and to collaborate effectively for resolutions to ethics issues. Her recent efforts to resolve a complicated ethics-related contract issue ensured that her department would have fair and equitable dealings without vendor conflicts.
Lisa Werlech, program analyst in the Risk Management Division of the Department of Public Health.
Lisa has been a consistent voice and strong supporter of ethical standards in King County and she has made this a priority in her role within public health. Time and again, she has welcomed discussions with the ethics Executive Director on ethics issues related to public health employees. She has sought creative ways to communicate high standards to employees through email, newsletters and dialogue, and effectively uses her direct reporting relationship to the director to ensure that he is informed and aware. These efforts help to establish ethics as an important part of the everyday work life of public health employees.
The Board of Ethics and Ms. Clemens also acknowledged the King County Council's office manager, Marilyn Kihara. Each year that the reception has been held in council chambers, Marilyn has volunteered her time to help in the reception planning and to assist in all of the room arrangements.
Thank you to all 2005 award recipients!
