Open enrollment choices will impact your pocketbook if you don't pay attention

Unlike most open enrollments, this one will impact your pocketbook if you don't pay attention. Be sure to visit this Web site in October and November to read updates and stay informed of important changes affecting you so you can make the right benefit decisions for next year.

NEWS NEWS NEWS

Nov. 20 is last and final day for open enrollment!

You only have until midnight Nov. 20 to make your benefit elections for 2010. This is a firm deadline with no exceptions. Elections will not be accepted after the last day of open enrollment because of the shortened workweek caused by the furlough day and Thanksgiving holidays the following week.

You also only have until 5 p.m. Nov. 20 to contact Benefits, Payroll and Retirement Operations for assistance with questions or online technical problems. The phone number is 206-684-1556.

To review your benefits package and make changes for 2010, go to www.kingcounty.gov/mybenefits and follow the instructions to sign in. At your personal page, click on My Benefits and then Open Enrollment, review the information on the Checklist page, and get started with your online open enrollment.

If you have questions, contact Benefits, Payroll and Retirement Operations at 206-684-1556 or
kc.benefits@kingcounty.gov.

You must go online during open enrollment if you want to make changes to your benefits for 2010. If you don't go online to make changes, you will continue with the benefits you currently have and you will automatically be charged a benefit access fee of $50 a month for covering a spouse/domestic partner under your county medical plan.

KingCareSM expenses and benefit access fee increasing; Group Health expenses aren't

KingCareSM deductibles and coinsurance for medical services as well as copays for preferred and non-preferred brand drugs are going up in 2010. Expenses in the Group Health plan, which offers some of the country’s best medical care at a lower cost to employees and the county, will remain unchanged.

The benefit access fee for covering a spouse/domestic partner who has access to medical coverage through an employer other than King County will increase from $35 a month to $50 a month in 2010.
