The weather may be cooling down, but there are still many great opportunities to Move More in the Puget Sound region! Remember that the Centers for Disease Control recommends 150 minutes a week of moderate-level physical activity and two days a week of muscle-strengthening exercises.

Weekend Walks at the Washington Park Arboretum – November 1st & 15th, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Take a 60 to 90 minute walk lead by skilled Arboretum guides. Explore seasonal interest in the Arboretum, native plants, or Foster Island ecology. Meet at the Graham Visitors Center at the Arboretum; no advanced registration. Donations appreciated.

Bicycle Maintenance Series – November 2nd, 16th and 23rd, 2009 (South Bellevue Community Center). Become a master of bicycle repairs and start saving time and money. Cascade Bicycle Club professionals will teach a series of classes including (1) Fix a flat, (2) Chains & Derailleurs, and (3) Brakes. Pick the course you need, or enroll in all three at a discount price. Necessary supplies and helpful handouts provided.

Snowshoeing 101 November 3rd or 17th, 2009, 7:00 p.m. (Seattle REI). Snowshoeing is a great way to get out into the backcountry, and experience the wonders of winter in the northwest. Requiring only some basic know-how and little specialized gear (you may already own most of what you need), snowshoeing is an easy and fun way for the whole family to enjoy a winter adventure. FREE!

Stretch and Sip – November 11th, 2009, 10:30 – 11am (Whole Foods, Interbay). Phyzz Yoga super instructor Karen Lindenberg guides you through 30 minutes of standing poses designed to get your body moving and energized. Afterward, power up with a protein smoothie from Odwalla. Free, registration required.

All Day Skate for $5 – November 11th, 2009 (Skate King, Bellevue). Looking for a fun activity this Veteran’s Day Holiday? Whether you have kids, or you’re a kid at heart, what a fun way to get some exercise! From 12 – 6pm skate for only $5!

Turkey Trot Fun Run – November 14th, 2009 (Mud Mountain Dam Recreation Area, Enumclaw). 2-mile run/walk on pavement, trails, and dirt road. Drawing for turkeys and gift certificates! No numbers or results – times will be called out at the finish line.

SEATTLE Marathon 5k Run/Walk – November 28th, 2009 (Seattle Center). Create a fun, family outing to burn off some of those Thanksgiving Day calories. Treat your out-of-town guests to stunning views of Seattle while doing something healthy for the entire family. This ADA-compliant course is wheelchair, dog, and stroller friendly!

Public Health Seattle & King County offers a comprehensive listing of community physical activity events, including bicycling, community service events, gardening, indoor events, outdoor recreation, walking events and local resources.

The Seattle Times has a Community Events listing - search for recreational events by date.

MyParksandRecreation.com  – search a listing of over 300 activities in 9 cities including Bellevue, Bothell, Issaquah, Kenmore, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Sammamish, Snoqualmie and Woodinville. Sort by age of participant, day of the week, etc.

Cascade Bicycle Club - FREE daily rides, bicycle education classes and more. You don’t need to be a member to participate in daily rides, and they’re offered for every level of rider.

Issaquah Alps Trails Club hosts hikes every week. Some are dog friendly.

Washington Trails Assocation offers volunteer opportunities to work on trails for most fitness levels. WTA also lists a hiking guide and resources for your trip. Don’t forget the 10 essentials!

King County Parks and Recreation maintains the King County Regional Trail System site including trail system highlights, maps, and volunteer opportunities.
