King County WalksKing County Walks Weektote bag image and description

April 5th through 9th, 2010

Congratulations!

Almost 750 King County employees took to the streets last week to Move More with their co-workers. Over 125 teams from around the county participated, reporting lots of fun and camaraderie along the way. Check out the Around the County section of the web site for stories and photos of participating teams.  We're still collecting stories of walkers around the county, so if you'd like to share your story or photos, email us.

Thanks to all employees who put on walking shoes and Moved More last week. Keep up the momentum and take it outside. Walking maps and other walking resources are found on our site.

Congratulations walkers and thank you for your participation.

The Centers for Disease Control recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity plus strength training exercises each week. Activity can be broken down into 10 minute segments – even 10 minutes of activity is proven to have health benefits. Just some of the benefits of walking are:

  • Manage weight and lower blood pressure
  • More energy, better balance and stronger bones
  • Better sleep and mood
  • Fewer aches and pains
  • Reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke
  • Healthier heart and lungs
  • Reduce the risk for diabetes and some types of cancer
  • Reduce greenhouse gases when you replace a drive with a walk
