May is Bike Month
Congratulations!Almost 200 employees on 27 teams participated in Bike Month 2010. These riders took 1,465 trips during Bike Month, logging 22,180 miles. Thanks for riding, reducing your carbon emissions, and representing the county. Over 10,000 riders around the region participated in Bike Month. | Sponsored by Cascade Bike Club, Bike Month is a time to test out bike commuting, compete with Bike Commute Teams around the region, and be counted as one of the many thousands of bike commuters around Seattle. King County encourages you to participate in Bike Month - improve your health by biking to work and reducte your car commute trips. To participate in Bike Month: Join the Group Health Commute Challenge – Commit to riding 5 round trips between May 1 – 31 and be eligible for great prizes. Join one of the county teams or form your own team of co-workers, family and friends. Registration is free – sign up online at www.cbcef.org or call 206-522-3222. - and/or - Ride on Bike to Work Day, May 21st. This is your chance to cycle to work and be counted as one of thousands of bike commuters in the greater Seattle area. Cascade Bike Club counts the number or bike commuters this day. This number has become the default indicator for the local bike community. Good news – it’s growing. Rider numbers have increased from 5,000 riders in 2000 to 20,000 riders last year! Throughout Puget Sound there will be commute stations to provide rider treats. Visit the Cascade website for a map of commute stations, or call 206-522-3222 for details. New to bike commuting – no problem! There are local resources to help you get started on your commute including Intro to Bike Commute classes. - King County is hosting an Intro to Bike Commute class - Weds, May 5th noon to 1 p.m. at the Chinook Building, room 123.
